Villa of Poppaea

One wall of a bedroom (cubiculum) in the Villa of Poppaea. The top half of the painting demonstrates proper vanishing point perspective. The artist has compensated for close viewing distance and the fact that a standing viewer would be seeing the bottom of the painting at a steep angle by lowering the intersection points of lines in the painting that would project into the false architectural space of the scene.
