Gordianus III (Gordian, Gordianus Pius)

In this portrait Gordian seems to be attempting to state that, despite his youth, he is still shrewd, capable of governing, and should be respected and feared. Either he or his sculptor seemed to have had Caracalla in mind.

Found in the Round Temple in Ostia during excavations in the early 1800s, now in Museo Nazionale Romano, Palazzo Massimo.
