Altar with inscription to the Deus Invictus Hercules, at the Temple of Hercules in the Sacred Area of the Republican Temples, Ostia. The dedication is made by Hostilius Antipater, who was Praefectus Annonae in 290 CE. The position of Praefectus Annonae was created to oversee the corn supply. The position was made permanent by Augustus, and was selected from the ranks of the Equites.
